Ezekiel 30
Day of the LORD is near verse 1- 4
The word of the LORD came again unto me
saying
Son of man – prophesy and say
thus says the Lord GOD
Howl you – Woe worth the day
For the day is near even the day of the LORD
is near a cloudy day
it shall be the time of the heathen
And the sword shall come upon Egypt
and great pain shall be in Ethiopia
when the slain shall fall in Egypt
and they shall take away her multitude
and her foundations shall be broken down
Judgment is coming to African league of nations verse 5
Ethiopia – Libya – Lydia – and all the mingled people
and Chub – the men of the land that is in league
shall fall with them by the sword
Dependence on Egypt is wrong verse 6- 9
Thus says the LORD
They also that uphold Egypt shall fall
and the pride of her power shall come down
from the tower of Syene shall they fall in it
by the sword – says the Lord GOD
They shall be desolate in the midst of the countries
that are desolate and her cities
shall be in the midst of the cities that are wasted
They SHALL KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD
when I have set a fire in Egypt
and when all her helpers shall be destroyed
IN THAT DAY shall messengers go forth from me in ships
to make the careless Ethiopians afraid
and great pain shall come upon them
as in the day of Egypt – for – lo – it comes
LORD is to use Babylon to judge Egypt verse 10- 12
Thus says the Lord GOD
I will also make the multitude of Egypt to cease
by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon
He and his people with him – the terrible of the nations
shall be brought to destroy the land
and they shall draw their swords against Egypt
and fill the land with the slain
I will make the rivers dry
and sell the land into the hand of the wicked
and I will make the land waste – and all that is therein
by the hand of strangers
I the LORD have spoken it
All the cities of Egypt will be affected by judgment verse 13- 19
Thus says the Lord GOD
I will also destroy the idols
and I will cause their images to cease out of Noph
and there shall be no more a prince of the
land of Egypt
and I will put a fear in the land of Egypt
I will make Pathros desolate – and will set fire in Zoan
and will execute judgments in No
And I will pour MY fury upon Sin – the strength of Egypt
and I will cut off the multitude of No
and I will set fire in Egypt
Sin shall have great pain
and No shall be rent asunder
and Noph shall have distresses daily
The young men of Aven and of Pi-beseth shall fall by the sword
and these cities shall go into captivity
At Tehaphnehes also the day shall be darkened
when I shall break there the yokes of Egypt
and the pomp of her strength shall cease in her
as for her – a cloud shall cover her
and her daughters shall go into captivity
THUS I will execute judgment in Egypt
and they SHALL KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD
Power of Egypt is broken verse 20- 24
And it came to pass in the 1/ 7/ 11 that the
word of the LORD came unto me
saying
Son of man
I have broken the arm of Pharoah king of Egypt
and lo it shall not be bound up to be healed
to put a roller to bind it
to make it strong
to hold the sword
Therefore thus
says the LORD God
Behold – I am against Pharoah king of Egypt
and will break his arms – the strong
and that which was broken
and I will cause the sword
to fall out of his hand
and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations
and will disperse them through the countries
and I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon
and put MY sword in his hand
BUT I will break Pharaoh’s arms
and he shall groan before him with
the groanings of a deadly wounded man
LORD gave power to Babylon verse 25- 26
BUT I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon
and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down
and they SHALL KNOW THAT
I AM THE LORD
WHEN I shall put MY sword into
the hand of the king of Babylon
and he shall stretch it out
upon the land of Egypt
And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations
and disperse them among the countries
And they SHALL KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD
COMMENTARY:
DAILY SPIRITUAL BREAKFAST: Young Believers
: 8 And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have set a fire in Egypt, and when all her helpers shall be destroyed. (5826 “helpers” [‘azar] means succor, support, aid, assist or one who gives assistance to another.)
DEVOTION: The LORD is sovereign over the nations of the world. Many nations have come and gone but the children of Israel are still here. When the LORD judges a nation for their sins HE sends another nation usually to conquer them to show them that they are not in control of their country, HE is.
The Egyptians had made a league with other nations of Africa to help them if they were being attacked by another nation. The countries of Africa worked together to keep Egypt safe.
The problem was that Egypt depended on false gods to help them through every difficulty. These false gods were made of wood and stone. They received sacrifices but they were not able to help them overcome an enemy if the LORD was against them.
Too many nations thought they were too strong to fall. The Egyptian nation thought those thoughts. They said they would support Israel in its upcoming battle with Babylon. They thought they could defeat Babylon but they didn’t realize that the LORD was using Babylon to judge them.
No nation can defeat a nation that the LORD supports.
When we study the Word of God we find the children of Israel had been in captivity in Egypt for a long time and yet they were still looking back to them for assistance when trouble came. They had not learned their lesson that the LORD was in control of the world even though they didn’t seen HIM personally. They wanted to depend on physical assistance rather than spiritual assistance. They were wrong. Egypt or the world is no support when the LORD is against a nation or individual.
The LORD allows those who are HIS followers to be attacked by the world, the flesh and the devil on a regular basis. If we look to the world for assistance against these attacks we will fail to have the victory. It is only as we look to the LORD for assistance that we can have victory.
CHALLENGE: Examine who we look to for guidance when we are under attack. If we are looking to ourselves or other human being only we will fail. If we are praying and asking the LORD for assistance during a trial, we can have victory on a regular basis.

DAILY SPIRITUAL LUNCH: Transitional Believers
: 16 And I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be rent asunder, and Noph shall have distresses daily. (6862 “distresses” [tsar] means foes, enemy, affliction, adversary, or oppressor.)
DEVOTION: It is interesting the names of some of the cities of Egypt. We have “Sin” or Pelusium. Another name “No” or Themes. The LORD even speaks to us through the names of our enemies. Egypt was to be a helper to the children of Israel but the LORD was against Egypt.
HE wanted the children of Israel to depend on HIM but they always seemed to in the wrong direction when there was a battle to be fought. They didn’t think they could depend on the LORD all the time and that was their biggest problem to overcome. Egypt was going to have Babylon in their doorstep and they would be defeated even though they had the other nations of Africa on their side.
Once the LORD sent an enemy they were going to be defeated. HE gave the Babylonian army HIS support because HE was judging the false gods of Egypt at that time. The children of Israel believed that the false gods of Egypt could save them over the TRUE GOD of Israel. They were so blind to the truths of the past.
Egypt was in trouble and Israel followed the wrong lead. Today we seem to be in the same boat. We tend to look to the world for help when we are in trouble rather than our prayer life. We have a hard time waiting on the LORD for answers to our problems. We think we can work faster than the LORD.
The answer to this thought is that it is wrong. God works in HIS time and in HIS way to help us through every difficulty HE allows in our life. The afflictions are to cause us to grow closer to HIM. Too often we allow them to drive us further from HIM.
Once we hit bottom we start looking up to HIM for strength and guidance. The world can never defeat our enemies. It is one of our enemies. There are no deals we can make that will keep us free from the afflictions that come our way. We just have to trust in the LORD to help us through each trial in HIS time and in HIS way. It is hard but it is the only way that works according to the Word of God.
CHALLENGE: Our world is set on fire by God on a regular basis. This is to cause us to come to HIM for support. We need to stop running the wrong way.

DAILY SPIRITUAL SUPPER: Mature Believers
: 21 Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, lo, it shall not be bound up to be healed, to put a roller to bind it, to make it strong to hold the sword. (7665 “broken” [shabar] means destroy, to shatter, smash, to fracture a bone of, be crushed, to smash into fragments, or wreck.)
DEVOTION: The LORD is the one who gives kings and kingdoms power or take away their power. HE is in control of the universe. HE created it and can do what HE wants with any king or kingdom.
Here HE is stating that HE is going to crush Egypt and judge them for their actions against the children of Israel. HE is the one who can use nations to judge Israel for their disobedience and then HE can use another nation to judge them for their actions.
We don’t fully understand what the LORD is doing among the nations today. HE is still on the throne and we think that our nation should not be going through a hard time but HE knows what each nation needs to keep it safe for HIS people.
It seems that when the children of Israel sinned, HE used a nation to judge them to get them back in a right relationship with HIM.
HE is using nations today to show the world that HE is in control and that we need to understand that HE wants us to be obedient to HIM or HE will take our nation and put it under judgment which means that even HIS people will suffer until they understand that they have not been as obedient to HIM as HE would like.
America has been a blessed nation for many years but we are moving further and further away from HIS teachings and thinking that we are OK when we are not OK but in need of chastening to cause us to move closer to HIM again.
Some people say that America is a Christian Nation but that is not as true as it used to be in times past. Our leadership seems to be allowing sin to run rampant without any regard for HIS laws of behavior.
CHALLENGE: Those who are genuine believers need to pray and reach out to other with the message of salvation. We need to have revival in our churches that will cause us to genuinely reach those who don’t know HIM in a personal way. The time may be shorter than we think!!!
_________________________________________________________
: 26 And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them among the countries; and they shall know that I am the LORD. (2219 “disperse” [zarah] means scatter, fan, spread, cast away, winnow, or to distribute loosely.)
DEVOTION: The LORD is the ONE who watches over all the nations of the world. HE knows what is going on in each nation. HE knows the relationship between every nation and Israel. HE people are important to HIM. HE wants them to be obedient but when they are not, HE will judge them through others nations.
Now the nations that HE uses will also be judged for their treatment of HIS people. Here we find that the nation of Egypt is going to be judged for their treatment of the children of Judah. They were giving them a safe haven when the LORD was judging them and so because they allowed them to come into Egypt to escape HIS judgment they were going to be judge.
Remember that it is because of the sin of false worship that the LORD was judging Israel and part of their false worship was the false gods of Egypt. Egypt had been judged during the time of Moses for the same reason.
Now we know that the LORD is in control of all that is happening in our world. HE is allowing freedom but not allowing it to go too far. If a nation wanders from the LORD and starts worshiping false gods when it was founded on the Word of God then there has to be judgment.
Many nations today were using the Word of God for their standard of judgment of both people and nation. When a nation stops using the Word of God and starts judging with a human understanding of right and wrong then there is all kinds of abuse of power. That is happening today.
Egypt has been used as a sign of what the world is like in the days of Old Testament. We need to make sure that we are not going with the flow of what is true today about our standards changing to please us rather than God.
There is a future time of scattering coming to our world. God is going to judge our world because of its present wandering from what HE would like to see in the daily lives of those who claim to be HIS people.
CHALLENGE: Our standards need to follow God’s standards of behavior if we want the blessing of the LORD in our life and in the life of our nation.

There are many passages in the Bible that don’t deal with these disciples of the faith but others do and I hope to encourage believers to practice these disciplines as the LORD commands us to do on a regular basis.
I took a doctoral class in Seminary regarding these disciplines and asked the LORD to give me an opportunity to practice them. HE did in a very unusual way. It worked.

QUOTES regarding passage
This message bears sober testimony in graphic detail to the events associated with the fall of Egypt. Ezekiel said that Pharaoh’s arms would be broken (vv. 21–22, 24) and that his arms would fall limp (v. 25). This passage presents Pharaoh as helpless and unable to hold a weapon and therefore unable to defend against invading armies (v. 21). Additional references to the defeat of Egypt may be found in Isaiah (30:1–14), Jeremiah (37:5ff.; 46:1–26), and the writer of Kings (2 Kgs 24:7). The repetition of the ideas in the last four verses was for emphasis (Ezek 30:23–25). Egypt’s devastation and its loss of standing in the family of nations is a constant testimony to the truth of God’s word (30:1–19). The great civilization would exist only in ruins and in historical records (30:20–26). (Cooper, L. E. (1994). Ezekiel (Vol. 17, p. 281). Nashville: Broadman & Holman Publishers.)
_______________________________________________________
Once again God reminded Egypt of her dispersion among the nations at that final destruction (vv.23, 26; of: 29:12; 30:17–18). The result was equally reinforced: the Egyptians would realize that it was the Lord who brought this judgment (v.26). (Alexander, R. H. (1986). Ezekiel. In F. E. Gaebelein (Ed.), The Expositor’s Bible Commentary: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel (Vol. 6, p. 898). Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan Publishing House.)
_______________________________________________________
Ezekiel’s point was to contrast the recent defeat suffered by Egypt (her one “broken arm”) with the still greater defeat she would suffer. She had been disarmed when she tried to intervene in Babylon’s attack on Jerusalem, but she would later be destroyed by Babylon. When Nebuchadnezzar attacked Egypt herself, she would fall to him (cf. Ezek. 29:1–20). God would then disperse Egypt among the nations (a fact stated twice for emphasis; 30:23, 26; cf. 29:12). Egypt would follow Judah into exile. (Dyer, C. H. (1985). Ezekiel. In J. F. Walvoord & R. B. Zuck (Eds.), The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures (Vol. 1, p. 1289). Wheaton, IL: Victor Books.)
___________________________________________________________
The first “breaking” took place at Carchemish in 605 b.c. when Nebuchadnezzar defeated Pharaoh Necho (2 Kings 24:7; Jer. 46:2). It was also at Carchemish that godly King Josiah was slain. The second “breaking” occurred when Pharaoh Hophra tried to help Judah when Nebuchadnezzar attacked Jerusalem (37:5ff). With both arms “broken,” Egypt would not be able to wield a sword, and that would put an end to the battle. Pharaoh Hophra had a second title, “The Strong-Armed,” but that title would not apply anymore.
While the Lord was permitting the Babylonians to break the arms of Egypt, He was also strengthening the arms of the Babylonians! He even put His own sword into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar! The Egyptians would be either slain or scattered and their land would be left desolate. “They shall know that I am the Lord” is repeated twice (Ezek. 30:25–26). During Israel’s sojourn in Egypt, Pharaoh wouldn’t recognize the Lord; but now the nation would learn that the Lord God of the Hebrews was indeed the only true and living God. (Wiersbe, W. W. (2000). Be reverent (p. 139). Colorado Springs, CO: Chariot Victor/Cook Communications.)

30:26 People often don’t learn that God is Lord until judgment falls. (MacArthur, J. F., Jr. (2006). The MacArthur study Bible: New American Standard Bible. (Eze 30:26). Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Publishers.)

Through Nebuchadnezzar the armies of Pharaoh would be broken, and he would cry out as a deadly wounded man, but the arms of the king of Babylon were to be upheld by God Himself until He should have executed the judgments decreed upon Egypt and the nearby nations, for it was Jehovah who had put His sword into the hand of the Chaldean leader, and that sword was not to be sheathed until the predicted doom fell upon all the land of Egypt, and the Egyptians were scattered among the nations and dispersed through the countries, to learn in abject captivity that it was a vain thing to fight against Jehovah. Ver. 26. And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them among the countries, &c.] Of which they might assure themselves, since the Lord had before spoken it, and here again repeats it: and they shall know that I am the Lord; whose name alone is Jehovah, and does whatsoever he pleases; sets up kings, and puts them down; strengthens and weakens kingdoms just as seems good in his sight; none having any power but what is given by him, and which he can take away when he thinks fit. After many years of delay, David assumes Israel’s throne.
INSIGHT
Earlier, Samuel had anointed David-then a young, inexperienced boy-to be king over Israel. Fourteen years elapsed between Samuel’s anointing and the time when David actually assumes the rule over all of Israel.
Instead of luxuriating in the royal palace during these years, David runs from cave to cave, trying to escape from Saul who is bent on killing him. But it is these difficult experiences that build into David the strength of character, the convictions, the sensitivity to right and wrong, and the vision to be a great king.
Even for us today, the road to transformation always goes through the tunnel of trials. (Quiet Walk)

THE SIMPLICITY OF THE GOSPEL
The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Luke 11:34
There is nothing so disconcerting as a plain, direct gospel that, stripping away all mere decorations and embellishments and ignoring all nonessentials and make-believes, exposes the naked soul and flashed onto it the light of God. How much easier it is to appreciate the ceremony and ritual, to indulge in high-sounding, idealistic generalities, and to be busy with philanthropic actions. How much more gratifying to the natural self are these than to face the simple direct questions of the Word of God. Idealists and humanists are rarely, if ever, persecuted.
But leaving all that, let us consider positively the gospel view of life and the solution of the gospel for the problems of life. That there is nothing so characteristic of it as its essential simplicity is seen most clearly perhaps if we look at it in the light of some words spoken by the Lord Jesus Christ. He said, “The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness” (Luke 11:34).
If we work out the picture found in those words, we shall see plainly the simplicity of the gospel. Our Lord says that what the eye is to the body in the matter of light, the soul is to man, and the individual man is to society. Thus we see that there is in man something vital and central. Man is not a mere collection and aggregate of parts. There is a center to his life called the soul, as vital to his life as the eye is to the body in the matter of light.
A Thought to Ponder: Our Lord says that what the eye is to the body in the matter of light, the soul is to man. (From Truth Unchanged, Unchanging, pp. 88-89, by Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones)

Every Creature Under Heaven
“If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister.” (Colossians 1:23)
Before the Lord ascended back to heaven, He commanded His disciples to “preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15), and one might receive the impression from the words of our text that this had already been accomplished, just 30 years after the command was given.
Yet, it is hardly plausible to infer from this that Christian missionaries had already reached the entire globe. The problem may be our far-too-limited appreciation of God’s witness in the creation. The phrase “to every creature” in our text could better be read “in everything created.” That is, the gospel that was now being brought in explicit terms to the Colossians was consistent with what they already should have known from God’s great witness in the very structure and behavior of everything He had created.
This is the testimony of such familiar verses as Psalm 19:1 (“the heavens declare . . .”); Romans 1:20 (“the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen”); Acts 14:17 (“he left not himself without witness”); and Acts 17:28 (“in him we live, and move, and have our being”). In the verses just preceding our text (Colossians 1:16-22), Paul had defined this universal gospel as embracing the creation, salvation, and consummation of “all things” by Christ (vv. 16-17, 20). The essence of this truth can be seen (if one’s eyes are willing to see it) in “all the world” (v. 6) in the beauty, complexity, unity in diversity, purposefulness, continuance of energy, and process, as found in “every creature which is under heaven.” Every aspect of God’s creation has been designed to reveal Christ as Maker and Savior. The Lukewarm Church: Laodicea by John MacArthur in Christ’s Call TO REFORM the Church Worse than any outspoke overt rejecter of God’s Word is the self-righteous hypocrite who believes he doesn’t need the gospel. (p. 158)
___________________________________________________
As we’ll see, that was the state of the church at Laodicea. Regarding the LORD’s last letter to the churches in Revelation, John Stott wrote, “Perhaps none of the seven letters is more appropriate to the twentieth-century church than this. It describes vividly the respectable, sentimental, nominal, skin-deep religiosity which is so widespread among us today. Our Christianity is flabby and anemic. (p. 158)
___________________________________________________
Like many unregenerate churches, the Laodiceans had a warped view of Christ. Their heresy was no different from that of the Mormon church, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, or any of the liberal churches today that reject Scripture and the deity of Christ. (pl 163-4)

We now have a Facebook page for Small Church Ministries – please invite others to join us on Facebook. Thank you. Look for the logo from the devotionals.
Wrote this three and a half years ago to my granddaughter in Alaska: My granddaughter, Kaia, asked three and a half years ago for me if my work was hard regarding the devotionals and I said it was hard but a joy; because I enjoy teaching people the Word of God. She wanted to start receiving the devotionals but she wanted to start in the New Testament. I have been struggling on what to do. I didn’t want to disappoint a ten year old girl who is asking a friend to start receiving the devotionals now. That night the LORD woke me up. My usually sleep time is only about four hours at a time each night. Well the LORD brought to my attention I John 2: 13:
I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
For a number of years I taught a college and career class for a week at camp. I really enjoyed that ministry. The LORD took two ministries away at the same time and I didn’t understand why. HE wanted me to examine my life and set me up for the request of my granddaughter.
So now there are three different groups of believers that need to grow in the LORD. My youngest son and one of the board members said I should pick a different translation to appeal to the younger two groups.
I began thinking for three different devotionals but the website was not set up that way. The only solution I have is to include all three groups in the one devotional. The first part will be labeled “Daily Spiritual Breakfast” for those young believers. The second part will be labeled “Daily Spiritual Lunch” for those young adults who receive the devotionals that the “Daily Spiritual Meat” is too much at this time for them.
Finally, I will continue to send the last one last for those who want to continue to grow beyond the first two. These Daily Meat Devotionals are to encourage believers who have know the LORD for a long time to practice a daily time with the LORD and to be used by those who currently have a regular devotional time to copy and paste into a file for the particle book of the Bible for future use when they need another source for teaching others.
