And the LORD spoke to Moses
saying
Speak to the children of Israel – and say to them
When you be come into the land of your habitations
which I give to you – and will make an offering
by fire to the LORD – a burnt offering
or a sacrifice in performing a vow
or in a freewill offering
or in your solemn feasts
to make a sweet savor unto the LORD
of the herd or of the flock
THEN shall he that offers his offering to the LORD bring

and for a drink offering you shall offer the third part of an
hin of wine – for a sweet savor to the LORD
And WHEN you prepare a bullock for a burnt offering
or for a sacrifice in performing a vow
or peace offering unto the LORD
THEN shall he bring with a bullock a meat offering of three tenth
deals of flour mingled with half an hin of oil
And you shall bring for a drink offering half an hin of wine
for an offering made by fire
of a sweet savor unto the LORD
THUS shall it be done for one bullock
or for one ram – or for a lamb or a kid

in offering made by fire – of the sweet savor unto the LORD
IF a stranger sojourn with you
or whosoever be among you in your generations
and will offer an offering made by fire
of a sweet savor to the LORD
as you do – so he shall do
One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation

an ordinance forever in your generations – as you are
so shall the stranger be before the LORD
ONE law and ONE manner shall be for you
and for the stranger that sojourns with you
First grain brought to the LORDverses 17-21
And the LORD spoke to Moses
saying
Speak unto the children of Israel
and say to them
When you come into the land whither I bring you
THEN it shall be – that – when you eat of the bread of the land
you shall offer up an heave offering to the LORD
You shall offer up a cake of the first of your dough for an heave offering
as you do the heave offering of the threshing floor
so shall you heave it
Of the first of your dough ye shall give to the LORD an
heave offering in your generations
Sins unintentional committedverses 22-26
And IF you have ERRED – and not observed all these commandments
which the LORD has spoken to Moses
Even all that the LORD has commanded you by the hand of Moses
from the day that the LORD commanded Moses
and henceforward among your generations
THEN it shall be – IF aught be committed by IGNORANCE without
the knowledge of the congregation – that all the congregation shall
offer one young bullock for a burnt offering
for a sweet savor to the LORD
with his meat offering – and his drink offering
according to the manner
and one kid of the goats for a sin offering
AND the priest shall make an ATONEMENT for all the congregation of
the children of Israel – and it shall be FORGIVEN them
for it is IGNORANCE – and they shall bring their offering
a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD
and their sin offering before the LORD
for their IGNORANCE
and it shall be FORGIVEN all the congregation of the
children of Israel – and the stranger that sojourns
among them
seeing all the people were in IGNORANCE
Unintentional sin by individualverses 27-29

for a sin offering
And the priest shall make an ATONEMENT
for the soul that sins IGNORANTLY
when he sin by IGNORANCE before the LORD
to make an ATONEMENT for him
and it shall be FORGIVEN him
You shall have ONE law for him that sins through IGNORANCE

and for the stranger that sojourns among them
Willful disobedience = cut off from Israelverses 30-31
BUT the soul that does aught PRESUMPTUOUSLY
whether he be born in the land – or a stranger

and has broken HIS commandment
that soul shall utterly be CUT OFF
his iniquity shall be on him
Gathering wood on Sabbath = stoned to deathverses 32-36
And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness
they found a man that gathered sticks on the Sabbath day
And they that found him gathering sticks brought him
to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation
And they put him in ward
because it was not declared what should be done to him
And the LORD said to Moses
The man shall be surely put to death
all the congregation shall stone him with stones
without the camp
And all the congregation brought him without the camp
and stoned him with stones – and he died
as the LORD commanded Moses
Blue fringe on all clothes commandedverses 37-41
And the LORD spoke to Moses
saying
Speak to the children of Israel and bid them that
they make them FRINGES in the borders of
their garments – throughout their generations
and that they put upon the FRINGE of the
border a RIBBON of BLUE
and it shall be to you for a FRINGE – that you may look on it
and remember all the commandments of the LORD
and DO them
and that you seek not after your own heart and your own eyes
after which you use to go a whoring
that you may remember – and do all MY commandments
and be HOLY to your God
I am the LORD your God – which brought you out of the land of Egypt
to be your God – I am the LORD your God
COMMENTARY:
DAILY SPIRITUAL BREAKFAST: Young Believers
: 16 One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourns with you, (4941 “manner” [mishpat] means decision, judgment, dispute, case, claim, a determination of right and wrong on legal matters, or justice)
DEVOTION: If people were living with the children of Israel in the Promised Land, they have to obey the ordinances of God. One law for everyone living in the land was HIS standard. So anyone who was in the Promised Land could not worship other gods but only the one TRUE God of Israel.
If anyone disobeyed the standard of God they would be judged accordingly. God didn’t want confusion. HE is a God of order. Once there is more than one law for people to live by it causes confusion.
Today we have laws on the books that agree with the standard the LORD has set for HIS people. However, there are laws on the books that disagree with the standard God has set for HIS people.
We are not living in the Promised Land as the children of Israel were going to do so we have to obey the laws of the land that we are living in unless they contradict the law of God.
Our country has a law that we are supposed to have freedom of religion. They have tried to change the words to say freedom of worship which is completely different. We have to fight legally to have the constitution of the United States kept for all).
Our freedom of religion means that we can witness to others regarding what we believe our Bible states to be the right way to live. The Bible has to always be our standard if we have freedom of religion.
The children of Israel were given instructions and those who were in the Promised Land had to obey the instructions of the LORD or move out. It would be nice if those who didn’t want to obey the commands of the LORD would not interfere with our practice.
Those that oppose Christianity want us to be tolerant of their beliefs but they don’t want to be tolerant of our beliefs. It seems those who are followers of Satan want their beliefs to be the only beliefs of the land.
CHALLENGE: We have the responsibility to teach people the truth even when they don’t want to hear it. We have to do it in love.
DAILY SPIRITUAL LUNCH: Transitional Believers
: 30 But the soul that doeth aught presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproaches the LORD, and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. (7311 “presumptuously” [ruwn] means to rise, to rise up, to be exalted, be high, haughty, overbearing, rise in rebellion or be lofty)
DEVOTION: Instructions continue to be given to Moses regarding what the children of Israel were supposed to do when they arrive in the Promised Land. Remember that this was going to happen thirty-eight years later. The LORD wants the people to be instructed, so that, they are prepared when they finally enter the Promised Land.
This chapter covers the sacrifices that were to be made by the children of Israel and strangers when they arrive in the land. Then it goes on to discuss that not offering the sacrifices, even in ignorance was a sin.
The first sin was one that the congregation did by ignorance. There were certain sacrifices that had to be offered by the congregation for this type of sin.
Then there was the individual who sinned by ignorance and what he had to sacrifice to the LORD.
Finally, there was the individual who was lofty or haughty in his sinning. He didn’t care what the commandments of the LORD were because he was going to break them. There are people who think they can get away with anything. The LORD told the children of Israel to put that individual to death. The problem was that if he got away with it and there was no consequence then others would follow their example. The LORD wanted to stop that from happening.
Today, we have people in our churches that are living in sin and some churches are doing nothing about members who are committing these sins against the LORD. We need to warn them. We need to deal with them according to Matthew 18. God wants us to realize that HE is still HOLY today. HE wants a church that is HOLY.
When we see someone in the church living in sin, we need to confront him in love and meekness. Those that are not members that attend our churches, we should go to them and tell them the standard set down in Scripture in love with the purpose of leading them into a relationship with the LORD.
CHALLENGE: Keep short accounts with God. Be willing to learn what the LORD expects of each of us and practice it. If we commit a sin in ignorance, ask forgiveness and work on not committing it again.
: 34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him. (4929 “ward” [mishmar] means watch, guard, prison, place of confinement, jail, custody, or gaol)
DEVOTION: Can you imagine this happening today on a Sunday? We are to worship the LORD on Sunday today to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We moved it to the first day of the week. The same standard that the LORD had for the Sabbath in the Old Testament is not the same standard for us today.
However, there should be some standard of appearance and actions on the LORD’S Day to set it apart from the rest of the week. One of the actions that should be done is that all genuine believers should be in church with their families. There should be participation in the singing and listening to the message without grumbling and complaining. There should be the giving of the tithe to the work of the LORD. There should be prayer for one another. There should be love shown to all those who attend the service.
Now in the Old Testament the standard was different. There was to be NO WORK on the Sabbath. Here was a man gathering sticks for a fire. That seems harmless but God had set a standard of no work and it was to be obeyed by all. Also there was to be no fire on the Sabbath. All cooking was to be done before the Sabbath for the meal on the Sabbath.
So this man was doing two things wrong on the Sabbath. What was his punishment to be? The LORD commanded DEATH! Why? It was because God took HIS standard seriously. HE wanted HIS people to do the same. Once the death penalty was administered the rest of the people would realize HE was serious and obey.
CHALLENGE: God is HOLY and wants to be treated as if HE is HOLY!!
DAILY SPIRITUAL SUPPER: Mature Believers
: 39 And it shall be to you for a fringe, that ye may look on it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that you seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you use to go a whoring (2181 “whoring” [zanah] means harlot, commit fornication, commit adultery, to be unfaithful to God, idolatry, or be faithless)
DEVOTION: The LORD continually reminds HIS people of HIS standard for their lives. The problem with human beings is that they have a short memory for what is right to do in God’s eyes and what is right to do in their own eyes.
Here we find the LORD reminding them that they are NOT to seek after their own heart or after their own eyes. The human heart is desperately wicked (Jer 17:9). Our hearts are prone to sin. Our eyes are prone to wander away from the LORD.
Once we start following our heart that is not in tune with the LORD we are headed in the wrong direction. Once we take our eyes off the LORD we start looking at things that are not right for us to look at and stay in tune with HIM.
We can become idol worshipers very easy. Today are idols are not made of stone and wood. They are produced on television. They are produced in movie theaters. They are even produced on the internet. Our eyes can just look at a wrong website and we can be thinking wrong thoughts.
It is important to have an accountability partner to ask you what you are looking at and what you are thinking once in a while. It will cause you and I to evaluate our thought life and what we are watching.
One more part of the command was to put a fringe of blue on every garment to remind people of the commands of the LORD. There was to be no excuse accepted when someone might say “I didn’t know any better.” The judge could say “Look at your clothes!”
CHALLENGE: With all the warnings the LORD is giving the children of Israel do you think it is important for us to check our hearts and eyes regularly?
: 40 That you may remember, and do all MY commandments, and be holy to your God. (2142 “remember” [zakar] means recorder, mindful, recall, recollection, bring to mind, memory, or to preserve)
DEVOTION: The LORD gave each human being the ability to put facts in our minds for future use. We are told to learn from those who understand the Word of God. We are told to obey our parents. We are taught in school the facts of our surroundings.
Our parents give us instructions around the house regarding what they expect of us as we are growing up. There are rooms to clean and habits to practice to make us good individuals in society.
We go to church to find out what the LORD expects of us if it is teaching the truth of the Word of God.
We also have the ability once we can read to read the Bible for ourselves and find out what the LORD expects of us each day. We are supposed to have daily devotions in the Word of God and a time of prayer to seek the guidance of the LORD.
God wants the children of Israel to recollect HIS teaching through Moses and the priests. HE gives special instructions to the children of Israel that HE expects them to obey or face the consequences. Those who were disobedient were put to death because the punishment had to be one that would cause the children of Israel to listen to HIM.
Today the LORD gives us instructions through the Bible that have consequences either now or in the future. It seems that some people who claim to be Christians are not concerned with their actions because the consequences are not immediate at times.
Our God is still holy. If we honor HIM, HE will bless. If we disobey, HE will send judgement.
Are we concerned with the consequences of our actions as much as we should be? We should want to honor the LORD. If not we should be willing to face the consequences. Remember HE is a forgiving God if we confess our sins.
CHALLENGE: If we are continually repeating the same sin and not really concerned with the consequences. HE will send judgement our way. HE wants us to be HOLY!

QUOTES regarding passage
The first of the threshed grain was to be made into a cake and to be presented to the Lord (v.20). This concept of the firstfruits is a symbol that all blessing is from the Lord and all produce belongs to him. When the people would be blessed to eat of the varied products of the land, this sacred offering was to be presented as a reminder that their food was not just the product of their hands or a gift of “nature”—a foreign notion in biblical times. Each meal is a gift from Yahweh; his people are ever dependent on his largess.
This offering is made of coarse grain (ʿarisāh, “ground meal”) instead of the fine grain of the previous offerings (see on v.4). The idea seems to be one of immediacy. Right at the time of the threshing of the grain, before the processes of refining for princely flour, a cake is to be made in worship of God and held high from the threshing floor. As v.4 is marked by the verb qāraḇ (“to offer”), so v.20 is marked by an elegance in the use of four forms of the word rûm (“to raise”). The raising of the first cake of coarse grain is similar to the custom today in small businesses to frame the first dollar. The difference is potent as well; the cake was raised in gratitude to the Lord; such is less common in the framed dollar bill. Verse 21 repeats and extends the teaching on this offering. This is a perpetual ordinance; for the further removed the people become from the events of their salvation, the more likely they will be forgetful of the nature of their salvation. The first generation was not able to remember much longer than three days (11:1–3)! (Allen, R. B. (1990). Numbers. In F. E. Gaebelein (Ed.), The Expositor’s Bible Commentary: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers (Vol. 2, p. 828). Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan Publishing House)
15:17–21. The second set of regulations pertains to the offering of the firstfruits of harvest. When the people entered the land of Canaan and began to enjoy its produce, they were to show their devotion to the Lord by presenting to Him a cake baked from the first cutting of the grain. (Merrill, E. H. (1985). Numbers. In J. F. Walvoord & R. B. Zuck (Eds.), The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures (Vol. 1, p. 233). Wheaton, IL: Victor Books)
15:17–21 This regulation pertained to the offering of the firstfruits of the harvest. When the people entered the land of Canaan and began to enjoy its produce, they were to show their devotion to the Lord by presenting to Him a cake baked from the first cuttings of the grain. (MacArthur, J. F., Jr. (2006). The MacArthur study Bible: New American Standard Bible. (Nu 15:17–21). Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Publisher.)
15:17–21 The heave offering is also known as the wave offering. Right at the beginning of the harvest, the harvester had to acknowledge that his produce was a gift from God. By holding up the very first produce from a harvest or of the first cake made from the first grain of the season, the worshiper thanked God as the giver of all good gifts. (Radmacher, E. D., Allen, R. B., & House, H. W. (1999). Nelson’s new illustrated Bible commentary (p. 213). Nashville: T. Nelson Publishers.)
Ver. 21. Of the first of your dough shall ye give unto the Lord, &c.] As an acknowledgment of his being the sovereign Lord and possessor of heaven and earth, and of his being the owner and proprietor of the land of Canaan; and by way of thankfulness to him for the plenty of bread-corn he had given them; and therefore this cake was to be heaved or lifted up towards him in heaven, as follows: an heave-offering in your generations; for this respected not only the first time of their entrance into the laud of Canaan, but was to be observed every year when they made their first dough, and was to continue as long as the ceremonial law lasted: this cake was anciently given to the priest, which is meant by giving it to the Lord, but now the Jews take it and cast it into the fire and burn it: the apostle seems to allude to this cake of the first dough in Rom. 11:16. FROM MY READING:
(Remember the only author that I totally agree with is the HOLY SPIRIT in the inerrant WORD OF GOD called THE BIBLE! All other I try to gleam what I can to help me grow in the LORD!!)
THE POST- CHURCH CHRISTIAN by J. Paul Nyquist and Carson Nyquist
PAUL the father:
Are you willing to show your love by limiting your liberty? If so, how can you still authentically engage with your culture? This takes more work. But the answer is not either/or. Paul proves that. (p. 114)
1. Will it be helpful for me (I Corinthians 6:12)
2. Will it dominate me? (I Corinthians 6: 12)
3. Will it cause another believer to stumble? (I Corinthians 8:13)
4. Will it build up your neighbor? (I Corinthians 10: 23-24)
Answer: it’s not all about you. You have other believers around you. Will the exercise of your liberty build them up? Will they be edified? Think about that before you make a decision.
5. Will it bring God glory? (I Corinthians 10:31)
6. Will it offend an unbeliever? (I Corinthians 10: 32-33) (p. 114-117)
What makes a difference? Motives. Two actions can appear identical to a casual observer. Both might seem “good.” But the motives behind the actions could be drastically different. One could be with pure motives, the other selfish. One will be rewarded. The other rejected. (p. 118)
Ephesians 4
Christians are to live in righteousness and holiness, worthy of their calling in Christ.
INSIGHT
On the basis of who we are in Christ – redeemed, inheritors with Christ, adopted into God’s family, and destined to spend eternity with Him – we are to live a lifestyle that reflects our identity. We are no longer to live as we did before we knew the Lord – or as those who do not know Him. By putting on the “new man” we will preserve the unity of the Spirit and show the world that Christ is real. He makes a difference in the life that is dedicated to Him. (Quiet Walk)
DELIVERED
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
1 John 3:5
When John says that “he was manifested to take away our sins,” he is not stopping at the guilt of our sins, for salvation goes beyond that. We are delivered from the guilt—this first thing is essential; but thank God, the process does not stop there. He delivers us also from the power and from the pollution of sin. His work is such that He takes away our sin in a more vital sense. We are growing in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord; we are increasingly being made to conform to the image of His Son. We are being delivered—we have been, we are, and we shall be ultimately. The glorification is coming when He will take away our sin altogether, so that we shall be blameless and faultless and spotless and perfect in His holy presence.
The hymn that tells us, “There was no other good enough to pay the price of sin” also tells us this: “He died that we might be forgiven”; yes, but “He died to make us good” is equally true. The apostle Paul, writing to Titus, says: “[He] gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar [special] people, zealous of good works” (Titus 2:14).
So we must never separate sanctification from justification; we must never talk about a kind of series of separate blessings. It is all one—it all belongs together. And it is all a matter of this law that condemns us and from which Christ delivers us through the cross and by the gift of new life. He went to that cruel death on the cross not only so that you and I might have pardon. Thank God, that does come out of it, that is the first thing. But He did it really to separate, to put aside, a people for Himself as a special treasure and possession who, as Paul puts it, should be “zealous of good works,” who should live a holy life.
A Thought to Ponder: He delivers us from the power and from the pollution of sin.
(From Children of God, pp. 56-57, by Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones)
Treasures of Wisdom and Knowledge
“In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:3)
Paul had just promised the twice-born that they would be endowed with the “riches of the full assurance of understanding” that would enable them to possess an acknowledgment of the triune Godhead. The ability to understand and the profound awareness of the Trinity is possible because all “the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” are in Christ—who is in us!
In Colossians 1:9, Paul prays that they “might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding,” a sufficient awareness of information that will enable them to have “understanding in all things” (2 Timothy 2:7). Jesus explained to His apostles that His parables were devices to reveal to them “the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand” (Luke 8:10)
This wisdom and knowledge is the “treasure” of the Lord Jesus, not of the world (1 Corinthians 1:17-31), nor is it contained in the intellect of the “natural” man (1 Corinthians 2:6-16). The understanding and acknowledgment that comes through the world’s philosophy out of the reasoning of the unsaved mind is “earthly, sensual, devilish” (James 3:15).
Thankfully, “the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy” (James 3:17). God’s work is “very good.” When the creation of our new man is executed (Ephesians 4:24), we are given the “mind of Christ”—not His omniscience but the kind of mind that can now understand spiritual matters (1 Corinthians 2:16). Truly, we have been made friends with God. Jesus said, “For all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you” (John 15:15).
